his 32nd birthday
/I’m pretty sure everyone (except elise) missed the fact that Friday was the 17th. JULY 17th — the date that appears on the calendar emoji. …and while the thrill of that matching up is pretty high, the real excitement is in realizing July 17th gives me two months to figure out how to celebrate Tom’s September 17th birthday.
That’s right, folks… us planner people need at least two months to prepare an idea for something. That’s just how we are. Last year, with it being the first of our birthdays together, I wanted to do something special and grand without having to provide a head count to a place or make specific reservations. I sent out the invitation a month in advance to Plattduetsche Biergarten. It was the perfect choice for his 32nd birthday gathering of his 700 (no joke) close friends!
He and I arrived first and got our CHEERS in before his friends started trickling in. Some photos from the evening:
Once the night was underway and who was showing up had showed up, we walked over to the painted flag mural area and got a group shot. What did I tell ya? 700 CLOSE FRIENDS!
The best part about it is I got probably my favorite photo taken of Tom & I thus far. // I posted it with the caption: "A little ditty 'bout Tom and Amaaand // Two American kids doin' the best they can."
I then used that photo everywhere for a while, including the birthday card I DIYed for him. (You know me and my DIY cards.)
That’s how we celebrated his 32nd birthday with his friends — the Saturday before the 17th. The actual day of his birthday was on a Tuesday, and I was going to take him out to a nice dinner to a surprise place. He didn’t guess the place until we were on our way there: Peter Luger Steak House. I had served with one of the waiters when we both worked at another restaurant, so I requested his section.

And that’s how we spent the first of our birthdays together in September 2019. We took this shot after dinner with full bellies, and happy hearts. I love this guy.
