FUN FRIDAY // 02
/I introduced FUN FRIDAY last week and here’s the gist of it: because I chose FUN as my one little word® this year, I’ve decided that every Friday from now until the start of 2022, I’ll share something fun that happened the week before.
PLEASE NOTE: Sharing and enjoying something FUN does not negate my feelings of anger and embarrassment toward the nonsense that happened at the Capitol this week. They can coincide, and I might argue that - MY GOODNESS - they must or else we would self-implode. I still looked for and found fun this week, even in the weeds of the last couple of days. This is a concept I’m exploring with my word: how/where FUN can exist even in dark times.

Now let’s begin.
Foot Phone. ...or SOLE phone as I called it. (Pun intended. Pun always intended.) In the picture above, you can see Tom and I laying on opposite sides of the couch, holding each other’s feet. At one point this past week, I started pressing into his foot like I was dialing a cell phone. He swiped my foot like he was answering the call. We then talked with each other’s foot up to our ear and it was completely and utterly ridiculous (in the best way). “I don’t hear a dial toe!” “I still can’t heal you!” Good laughs were had.
@ginadrawingclub I went down an Instagram scrolling binge this past week but it was totally worth it because it was on illustrator Gina McMillen’s account. She makes the cutest little zines, comics, and illustrations about life and motherhood and I enjoyed so many of her posts. This one about rewatching The Little Mermaid as an adult (haa haa!) and this one listing reasons her three-year old cried this week were two of my favorites. Her work is so good.
Rae’s 4th birthday! The “baby” of our family, Raelyn, turned 4 years old this past week and we had a small family gathering for her to celebrate. She’s at that age where she understands everyone has a birthday, and got the fact that on this day it was hers. She’s becoming a handful, but she’s a lot of fun. Kids are fun.
Pet pillows. The same day we celebrated Rae’s birthday, we also redid Christmas with family (since Tom and I got COVID and spent Christmas at home). I gifted my mom pet pillows of Alejandro and Carmen, and she loved them! My cats are the closest things my mom has to grandkids, so now she gets to sleep with them every night. It was so fun to create these pillows and so fun to watch my mom open them! (I’d link to where I got them made, but I forgot where. Sorry.)
Snapchat on grandmas. I highly recommend ambushing normal family convos with Snapchat filters, especially when you can direct the camera in grandma’s direction unbeknownst to her. Haa haa!
OMG Zumba! …specifically this guy’s Zumba class. You can follow him on Youtube (he has some great videos and dance combinations). What’s even more fun is Tom’s sister is one of the girls in this video! She’s a Zumba freak! She goes five times a week, and this week I finally got a chance to do a class with her! She looked back at me at one point and asked what I thought and I shouted, “SO MUCH FUN!” I miss Latin dancing so much, and when the two Bachata songs came on, I nearly cried.
The joke about Catholic priests’ singing voice. This joke was fun, and broke me out of some negative feels when it really needed a few minutes of escape.

Fun Friday, friends. Hold your head high.
Lots of loving alliteration. xoxo
