Easter 2020
/On Easter 2020, I had no kids to send on an Easter egg hunt, no church service to attend, and no traditional family pierogi brunch. It was just me & my immediate crew doing the best we can do.
I opened my eyes early morning to see my two sleeping Easter funnies passed out on the cat tree. I took some time before getting out of bed to plaster pink bunny ears on Carmen in IG stories. What a world!
I made myself a soothing cup of coffee and fed the cats, and did a quick little Easter morning papercraft to calm my weary mind (inspired by Rubyellen Bratcher). I cut white card stock into the simple bunny shape she had shown, and thought to make the ears using different color scrapbook paper.
I used heart stickers for the noses, and markers for the eyes, nose, and whiskers. These sweet paper bunnies were successful in lifting my spirits.
The rest of the morning consisted of Tom making us an eggs & rice & beans breakfast, talking out a little drama from the night before, kissing and letting it go, a shower and a hairstyle, putting on my tried & true black maxi dress - but a dress nonetheless, FaceTime with his family, a trip to Stop & Shop for sour cream (I regret not taking a #fromwhereistand photo of my feet in the weird social distancing floor spots they created out of duct tape), and then to my mom’s for some pierogis.
Yeah, we made it happen. I was sad the family and I didn’t get to sit with her and help make them the day before (see #ARZpierogiparty), but Tom and I were there to eat some she fried up.
I also had the idea to adhere my bunny craft from the morning on top of the plastic container lids that were to house a few pierogis Tom and I were going to pass out to his parents and our sisters. WHY NOT?!
…and they easily became the highlight of my Easter - these silly gift baskets of what the holiday tastes like to me: homemade bomb delish pierogis. They made this weird year’s Easter special…put a spin on an annual tradition.
We drove the few blocks to his parents (cause Tom and I grew up in the same neighborhood) and made our delivery. We talked to his parents from over 6 feet away, and it was good to see people. It was SO GOOD to see people.
We made our deliveries and returned to our safe haven. Kissed the cats and watched some Curb Your Enthusiasm. My sister sent us a photo of her Easter dinner in gratitude:
…his sister posted her container o’goodies and called me the Easter Bunny:
…and that was the story of Easter 2020 in the midst of a viral pandemic that’s sweeping the entire planet. I just wanted it recorded here. It’s the second holiday we’ve had to UNcelebrate since all this started - St. Patrick’s Day was the first - and this post by Latonya had something in it for me. Damn, I love how she writes.
