10 YEARS w/ THESE TWO CATS

I’ve had 10 YEARS with these two cats. It’s pretty unbelievable to me how I can remember the first day I got each of them, and what it felt like to be the mama to two new kittens in June 2010.
I get tear-eyed thinking about the companionship they have provided through the mess of these past ten years: the passing of my childhood cat Dinah, mom and dad’s divorce, the career change from teaching to graphic design, going in and out of my dream creative job — not once but twice, waitressing again at 33 and eventually finding my way back to teaching, a huge move to Texas, two big break-ups, and the fight for my life - a.k.a. freedom from my OCD. They have been my guardian angels through it all.

These 10 years flew by so fast! It is not lost on me that - most likely - I’ve had them longer than I have left with them. It’s a sad thought and I think about it everyday, but it makes me give them extra kisses, take more photos, and just live fully in each of our present moments together. I love these two so much it hurts.
